Snacking To Lose Weight?
Today Dr. Oz dedicated his entire show to learning how to snack the right way while maintaining your diet plan. The episode was called “Snack Attack Hour”. Dr. Oz shared delicious recipes to snack on before meals such as the : Pizza Pocket, and Skinny Dips and Chips. Chewy Chocolate Truffle
Cravings for sweets always seems to be one of the biggest culprits to falling off the diet wagon (at least for me). This No Bake Chewy Chocolate Truffle Recipe with satisfy that sweet tooth but without sabotaging your weight loss goals.
- Chocolate truffle
- 11 dried apricots
- 5 dried dates
- 1/4 cup of cacao powder
- 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla extract
- pinch of salt
- 1 tablespoon of Agave Nectar
- 1/2 cup of chopped hazelnuts
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened coconut
Dr. Oz was talking to a guest named Danielle about her snacking tendencies. Danielle said that stress is trigger for her. When she is stressed out she will snack on foods like potato chips and popcorn. Dr. Oz told her that the next time she gets stressed she should reach for the foods that have a lot of volume but few calories. The Pizza Popcorn recipe shown below will make 8 cups of popcorn and only has 200 calories. Now, that’s “volume” without excess calories! Here are the ingredients to the Pizza Popcorn Recipe :
- 3 Tablespoons of unpopped popcorn kernels
- 1 tablespoon of parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of oregano
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of chives
Dr. Oz had passed around a bag of the Pizza Popcorn to the entire audience. They all looked please and looks like it would be a great “high volume and low calorie” way to snack in between meals.
Peanut Butter and Banana Quesadilla Recipe
Another audience participant named Jennefer told Dr. Oz that her greatest snacking trigger was that she would eat when she was tired. This is the recommendation that he gave her to get her past her mid morning/afternoon lulls.
- Mini whole wheat tortilla
- 1 tablespoon of reduced fat peanut butter
- 1/4 cup of banana slices
- Pinch of cinnamon
Dr. Oz said that the cinnamon helps to regulate your blood sugar and will control cravings. It acts as a metabolism booster as well!
Baked Onion Rings
Fries and potato chips are a common (unhealthy) way people snack in between meals. Try the Baked Onion Rings recipe the next time you have the munchies.
