2-27-2017 – Home Scams – Mold Removal, Hidden Toxins and What You Should Know About Water Filters

February 27 – Dr. Oz invited Lisa Lee Freeman (Consumer investigative reporter) on to the show to investigate the biggest scams and cons that are out there.  Not only are they preying on your health but they are also draining your wallet in the process.  Dr. Oz talks about dangerous molds, hidden toxins, and bugs that may by hiding in your home.  Also is your water filter helping your family to be healthier or could they actually doing more harm than good and making you sick?

Healthy Home Investigation – Leading home health investigators joined forces on Dr. Oz to talk about the biggest scams that we all face.  

Dangerous mold scams – Black mold (as well as other molds) can be very dangerous for your family.  But what about contractors tell you that you have a mold problem when in all actuality you don't?  Dr. Oz installed hidden home cameras to investigate this scam that is more prominent than most people think. 

Lisa Lea (invetigator) posed as a woman who called out a contractor to see if her staged home had any mold hazards (it didn't).  Dr. Oz had his team set up hidden cams to capture it all.  Before the inspectors came Dr. Oz had his own team of investigators declare the house as mold free.  They then rubbed eye shadow in a few corners to make it look like there could "possibly" be a mold problem.  Dr. Oz's team then called multiple mold inspectors out to the home. The very first inspector immediately said that the "eye shadow" was mold even before running any tests.

Red Flag #1 – No Testing Equipment

Dr. Oz said that none of the mold inspectors that they called even had any mold testing equipment with them.

Red Flag #2 – No certification

Dr. Oz said that none of the inspectors that came to the house were even licensed for mold removal.

Tuesday, February 28, 2017 – Celebrity Endorsement Scams

Shark Tank's Barbara Corcoran appears on Dr. Oz to talk about "celebrity endorsement scams" that are taking over the internet.  Barbara Corcoran fights back against beauty creams saying that they were endorsed by Barbara, when in fact they never were.  Find out how to separate genuine endorsements from scams that you should steer clear from.

Try to eat a breakfast that is protein based.  Dr. Logiudice made the suggestion of 2 eggs, avocado slices on a almond flour tortilla.  If you don't like eggs, an oatmeal breakfast with cinnamon, blueberries, and a quarter cup of almonds woul be a good choice.

For Lunch Have A Soup or Stew

Lunch Suggestion Tip – Make a soup or stew that is is full of nutrition.  A vegetable stew or bean based soup would be good options.

After lunch have some Fennel Seed Ginger Tea

Fennel Seed Ginger Tea is great for digestion and helps to reduce belly bloat.

How to make Fennel Seed Ginger Tea at home :

  • Infuse 1/2 tsp of crushed fennel seeds, a teaspoon of chopped ginger and a 1 tsp of honey in boiling water.  You can have fennel seed ginger tea twice a day.

Drink Oolong Tea Between Lunch and Dinner

Need an afternoon pickup?  Oolong tea is full of antioxidants and also has some caffeine in it to give you a boost of energy.  

Tip : Be sure to drink the Oolong tea before 6 PM so it doesn't affect your ability to fall asleep.  An extra tip for added flavor would be to add a cinnamon stick to the tea.

Avoid Carbs For Dinner – Have A Cleansing Salad

Your dinner should be light and with few carbohydrates.  Dr. Oz and Pina Logiudice suggested a chicken salad with a base of cabbage leaves or spinach.  You can also add your choice of beets, carrots, or tomatoes.  They gave the tip of adding a crunchy vegetable like celery or asparagus.  Protein choises would be chicken or fish.  Sprinkle some nuts on top and dress with olive oil.

Have Some Milk Thistle Tea Before Bed

Milk thistle tea is well known for it's ability to rejuvenate the liver and help you detox your body from toxins.  It also helps aid the gallbladder and kidneys.  You can have two cups of milk thistle each day while on the 5 day teatox plan that Dr. Oz shared today on February 20, 2017.

Dr Oz, Jenna Wolfe Review Isagenix Diet, Do Social Media Diets Work?

Are the latest, greatest, and trending social media diets filling your Facebook and other social media feeds with promises of easy and long term weight loss?  Is your feed full of before and after photos that look too good to be true?  Today, Dr. Oz spoke with Jenna Wolfe (fitness guru and Core expert) about the which social media diets works, which don't and which you should absolutely steer away from.  Dr. Oz mentioned that when one of these social media trending diets come from your own friends it's even more enticing to try.

Core Team Expert, Jenna Wolfe Investigates Social Media Diets (Isagenix, 21 Day Fix, IT Works Body Wraps)

Jenna said that we used to only have to worry about diets being sold in infomercials and magazines but today, it's a whole different story with social media playing such a large role in so many people's lives.  Today we aren't just being overloaded with sales pitches on diets from large companies but now pressure is even coming from your own friends. Jenna said that these diet companies are making billions with a capital "B"…  So, Jenna went out to investigate all of these social media diets to find out which ones hold promise and which ones hold nothing but water (and possibly your money)..

Jenna Wolfe researched all of the latest diets circulating Facebook to find the 3 that are the most popular.  Jenna searched for diets that have formed the most groups online.  She said that she found many and within each one she found an endless supply of recipes, quotes, before and after pictures, etc… etc… She said the before and after pictures were incredible but she had a hard time finding actual details about what made the diets work (or not work in many cases)…  Most of the diets that she discovered claimed how easy the diets were to lose weight.  However, but she could never find how any of these diets actually worked.  She saw shakes, workouts, body cleanses, snack recipes and more..  The one thing that she had a hard time locating was the price of all of these diets.  

  • Isagenix Diet (I had it misspelled as Isogenics)
  • 21 Day Fix System –
  • IT System Works (Belly Wraps) – This is the one that I have seen the most of, even from a few life long friends that decided to become distributors to try and make money from them..

Jenna ordered each one of these diets and she found out that they were much more expensive than she had imagined.  Every time she tried to check out her order she was prompted to upgrade to another package that promised better results.

Dr. Oz and Jenna sat down to talk about social media diets and how things have changed over time.  Dr. Oz mentioned that when he was young you would have to take the initiative to seek out most of the diets that are out there.  Now, with social media they target you..  Jenna said that if you look at an ad, you will see more similar ads because they know exactly what you are looking at.  

Isagenix Diet

-Dr. Oz spoke with two women who have both tried the Isagenix Diet with mixed results.  The first woman had wonderful results.  She said that she was at a point in her life where she really didn't have nothing to lose and she wanted to lose weight and gain her health back.  Well, for her she most certainly did lose weight.  In 4 months she had lost 55 pounds.  She went from a size 18 to a size 6.  

The second womand that Dr. Oz interviewed about Isagenix was a different experience (healthwise). Her review of Isagenix started out very good.  She said that she lost 89 pounds while on Isagenix, although she did spend nearly $2000.  She said that she woke up one morning and broke out in hives because the pills have Niacin in it.  She went to the doctor to find out that she had a thyroid problem.  She feels that because of the niacin she developed a thyroid condition that caused her to gain all the weight back and she says that she is now gaining 5 pounds a month.  So for her Isagenix was not a long term answer for her.  Dr. Oz did some research and said that he only found 1 scientific paper published about the relationship about thyroid conditions and niacin so there wasn't that strong of link but he understood about her concerns linking the two.

Dr. Oz said that we are all created different.  He asked the woman who developed a thyroid condition what she would like to say to others thinking about trying the Isagenix or other diets that are on Facebook and social media.  She said that Isagenix Diet is great is your on it for the rest of your life.  If you can't be on one of these diets for the rest of your life you will probably end up gaining all the weight back.  She said that you will have to change your lifestyle…

Isagenix Diet Nutritional Breakdown – Dr. Oz asked the help of Maya Feller (registered dietician and nutritionist)..  She said that the Isagenix Diet is very low calorie so she would expect people to lose weight.  She said that there is very little food that is consumed on the Isagenix diet (a lot of shakes, nutritional supplements, etc..)..

21 Day Fix Guide – What Is It? Does It Work?

The 21 Day Fix is is more of an extreme workout program.. So, if you stick to the 30 minute session workouts then you will likely receive a benefit of both weight loss and cardiovascular health boost.  However, how many of us can stick to an extreme workout program for 3 weeks?  I think my body would be so sore after one extreme workout that I would need 4 days off for my body's muscles to recuperate!

Ok, this one I have seen one on Facebook to the point of feeling ill.  I have went as far as trying it.  For me it didn't work, and if it did it was only a temporary water weight loss.  Dr. Oz didn't go into any detail about it, but it seemed to fall into the "too good to be true" category.  I think that most of the hype of the IT Body Works Wrap and Reboot system is that you can work for them and become a distributor.  However, most people have seen these ads a countless number of times and this is no longer a novel approach… Now, people are likely to keep on scrolling and maybe unfriend you.. lol.. <<< I did "unfollow" a friend because they wouldn't stop filling my feed with the same sales pitches every single day… Multiple times a day!

Dr Oz Cottage Cheese Banana Split Recipe – Cottage Cheese Pancakes

Today Dr. Oz shared some "Guilt Free" recipes of delicious foods and desserts that you thought were no longer allowed on your diet plan.  Dr. Oz shared a guilt free banana split, creamy mac and cottage cheese, and whole grain cheese pancake recipes.  Listed below are the ingredients and directions to make delicacy treats that are actually healthy for you!

Guilt Free Banana Split Recipes

Ingredients :

  •  1/2 cups of cottage cheese.
  • 1 teaspoon of ground flax
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped walnuts
  • 1 banana
  • 1/2 cups of mized berries
  • 1 teaspoon of chia seeds

How to Make Guilt Free Banana Spit

  • Slice the banana in half and place in a bowl.
  • Add cottage cheese to the middle
  • Top with the mixed berries
  • On top of the banana split add chia seeds, walnuts and flaxseeds.

Creamy Mac and Cottage Cheese Recipe

Ingredients that you will need :

  • 1/2 cups of low fat milk
  • 1/4 cups of grated Parmesan cheese (plus a pinch or two more as garnish)
  • 1/4 cups of pasta cooking water (you can add more water if you need to)
  • 2 cups of cottage cheese
  • 1/4 cups of skim mozzarella (choose the grated mozzarella)
  • 4 cups of cooked elbow pasta
  • pinch of salt and pepper to taste

Preparation directions :

  • Mix the cottage cheese and milk in a food processer
  • Add the cottage cheese mixture to a pot
  • Set stove temp to medium low and heat the pot
  • When the cottage cheese mixture is hot add in the Parmesan, mozzarella, cooked pasta, and pasta water.
  • Mix and then season with salt and pepper.
  • Garnish with Parmesan cheese to taste
  • Enjoy!

Whole Grain Cottage Cheese Pancakes

Ingredients :

  • 1/2 cups of sorghum flour
  • 1/2 cups plus 1 tablespoon of tapioca starch
  • 1/2 teaspoons of flax meal
  • 1/2 teaspoons of salt
  • 1/3 cups of cottage cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 pint of blueberrries
  • 3 tablespoons of water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1 cups of oat flour
  • 1 tablespoons of baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons teff flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 3/4 cups of buttermilk
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 teaspoons off canola oil
  • 1/2 cups of maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Whole Grain Cottage Cheese Pancakes Directions :

  • Mix all of the dry ingredients above in a bowl
  • blend all the wet ingredients in another bowl
  • Make an opening well in the middle of the dry ingredients bowl.  Add the wet ingredients into the opening.
  • Keeping adding in wet ingredients until a batter is made.
  • Allow the batter to sit for 15 mins.
  • Preheat griddle to medium – hot
  • Spray with non stick cooking spray.
  • Add the pancake batter to the griddle
  • Allow the pancakes until bubbles begin to surface but dont' break (this should take about 2 minutes)
  • Flip the whole grain cottage cheese pancakes
  • Enjoy your pancakes

There is something that is emotionally satisfying about bread that we all seem to crave.  Unfortunately, most bread is packed with carbs that can cause you to gain weight.  Today Dr. Oz talks about brand new breads that have been hitting the market shelves that promise that you don't have to give up the carbs to lose the weight.  Does this sound too good to be true?  Listed below are the "New" breads that can help you to lose weight that were featured on Dr. Oz.

Guilt Free Bread Options

When you eeat bread your blood sugar spikes and triggers a "feel good response" from a chemical called dopamine.  That's why people feel soothed and satisfied when they eat bread.  The downside is that the satisfied feeling doesn't last long and you will be hungry again, while craving more bread.   The good news is that there are some guilt free breads that don't cause the blood sugar spikes and intense cravings for more carbs.

Coconut Bread

Have you ever tried coconut bread?  Each slice is only 35 calories and 6 grams of carbohydrates!  On Dr. Oz the guest suggested making french toast using coconut bread.

Tapioca Bread

Do you love white bread, but know that it's not a good for your diet?  Try tapioca bread.  They said that it tastes just like white bread but is much better for you.  It is loaded with fiber, minerals, and vitamins.  It is also a starch resistant bread and your body doesn't store it as fat as easily.

Now that you know about some low carb / starch resistant breads, Dr. Oz shared some butter spreads that are good for you.

Pistachio Butter

Maya Feller (a nutritionist) explained to Dr. Oz that pistachio butter is the trending bread for 2017.  Maya said that Pistachio Butter is high in vitamin A, iron, calcium, fiber and protein.  As an added health benefit, pistachio butter can help to lower your cholesterol levels!

Hairmax Cool Laser Comb – The Hairmax cool laser comb is FDA approved.  The before and after photos on Dr. Oz of a woman who used the Hairmax Cool Laser for 6 months was quite dramatic.  You can also use it in conjunction with minoxidil for even more hair regrowth.  The laser that is used in the Hairmax Cool Laser doesn't hurt at all.  Dr. Oz said that it's a different type of laser than what most people think (hair removal lasers for example).

Pre-Poo Oil Recommendations for Thinning Hair

Coconut Oil for Thinning Hair – Coconut oil is lighter oil and works the best for fine or thinning hair.  Simply massage the coconute through your hair 15 minutes before you take a shower.  You will notice that your hair doesn't appear as thin, is softer and more luxurious.

AMLA Oil For Thick Textured Hair – For women who  have a more thicker or more textured hair, they recommended AMLA oil.  The woman said that you should make sure that you go to a health store to make sure that you are getting real AMLA oil and not an imitation oil that won't give you the same benefits.

Castor Oil for Course Textured Hair – The castor oil recommendation seemed to surprise Dr. Oz.  The woman said that castor oil does wonders for those who have thick course hair.  She said that she likes to mix castor oil and coconut oil for her hair.

Hair Loss Budget Solutions

Toppik Hair Fiber Treatment for Thinning Hair

Toppik Kerratin Fibers – The hair specialist explained to Dr. Oz that Toppik hair fibers work in a similar way that mascara does to eyelashes.  The fibers attach to the end of the hair and increase volume, length and thicken hair.  The woman demonstrated how well the Toppik hair fibers work on stage to a woman who had thinning hair.  The results were instant and very dramatic!  I was skeptical and thought that it would look painted on, but her hair looked very natural… Just thicker!  The woman asked the hair specialist how long do the fibers stay in.  She said that the Toppik kerratin Hair Fibers will stay in from shampoo to shampoo.  So, the fibers will last all throughout the day (and night apparently) until your next shower.

Do Toppik Hair Fibers Come in Different Colors? – Yes, they come in many colors.

Frontal Thinning Hair – The specialist said that Minoxidil for women works for thinning hair in this area.  The results will be seen gradually.
